Zonneveld tests positive on COVID-19, career in danger

In an exclusive interview to Darts Actueel, Niels Zonneveld shared some bad news. The Dutch talent will not participate at the upcoming Euro Tour, International Darts Open, in Riesa. The rest of the season is in danger as well.

Niels Zonneveld was tested positive at the start of October, which resulted in an immediate isolation for the Dutchman. Zonneveld has been sick from Covid quite some days. Fortunately, he has been fully recovered and feels healthy again.

The virus particles can be found in de body for a minimum of 2 months, therefore is a negative test very unlikely. Zonneveld tested again last tuesday, but he tested positive again. It’s obligated to show a negative test before entering Germany or a PDC tournament.

This means that besides the upcoming Euro Tour, also other PDC tournaments will be missed by Zonneveld. The Winter Series (9-14 November), the Grand Slam Qualifier (8 November) and the World Championship Qualifier (30 November) are in danger.

Niels Zonneveld is ranked 30th on the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit, which means he is virtually qualified for the World Championship. Without the ranking money from the upcoming Euro Tour, he is already outside these important World Championship spots. Not having the chance to play the Pro Tour will also result in the loss of his Tour Card.
